A 200 can mean the ping was ignored
A paused monitor and a monitor over the plan quota still return HTTP 200. The schedule does not move.
A 200 is not a check-in. A paused monitor still returns 200 and sets ignored to paused. The schedule does not move. A monitor over the plan quota does the same and sets ignored to over_quota.
curl -f only looks at the status code, so it exits 0. A script that stops there logs a success for a ping that did not count. Read the body. Both responses are on the ping API page.
